Channel 4 adopts the Sun editorial policy?

Once upon a time Channel 4 had the respect and admiration for of the nation’s viewing public for its intelligent coverage, moral standpoint and editorial integrity but this was long time ago.

It seems that Ch4 in a desperate attempt to achieve higher ratings and to suck up to advertisers have resorted to titillation and cheap programming content that spread hate of the ethnic population in the UK and play to the fear of white suburban viewers.

Programs such as Benefit Street, which demonised disadvantaged people in the Midlands, got mixed reactions, while Immigration Street fared badly as the residents strongly opposed the program maker’s ploy to portray Derby Street as an area that is swarming with immigrants which is not true.

Channel 4 did not listen, act as an honest broker or care for the opinions of the diverse residents and their feelings towards such a program and instead asked the residents to take their concerns up directly with the program makers who had no interest to stop filming, the plea was also made by the residents association and the MP who urged producers to understand the feeling on the street.

The program eventually failed when the residents took it upon themselves to shadow the cameras and pelted the producers with eggs and flour on a number of times resulting in the producer abandoning the show.

The recent program entitled “Romanians are coming” is quite intimidating as it portrays Romanians as Gypsey’s and stereotyping hard working Eastern European workers as a problem/plague that is going bring havoc on the country and ultimately incite racial hatred which leads to verbal and physical attacks on innocent hard working people.

This style of scare mongering has been there for more than 4 decades with the arrival of every ethnic group in the UK and it seems we are at the low point in broadcasting and the increasing level of “Sun” style editorial trash which is bound to leave a negative image and suspicion with the immigrant population for years to come.
