Dilemma facing the UK football clubs?

The FA and football clubs in the UK especially the Premier League are spending hundreds of million of Pounds to position themselves as global brands but missing an important element on the way.

UK clubs are developing their brands in terms of corporate ID’s, sponsorship and television deals, attracting an internationally broad range of players, and the whole experience at the grounds are great but they seem to be missing a trick or two when it comes to attracting new spectators to the club which at first glance seem quite alarming.

My recent visit at football clubs in London I was alarmed to see the majority of spectators are white men in a city that boost to have more than 45% of its population of diverse ethnic backgrounds. What will football clubs do to attract the growing young football loving ethnic spectators in the capital? The same can be said for clubs in the Midlands, Yorkshire, Manchester and Leicester.

Football clubs have been complacent and failed to capture this new audience with money to spend and love for the beautiful game which clubs did not do much to encourage, in fact clubs have been doing the opposite and driving ethnic supporters away from the clubs with racist statements by club owners such as remarks by Whelan about Jewish and Chinese people and footballers racist blunders by players at Chelsea, Liverpool and QPR, that is sending the wrong messages to the growing diverse ethnic population and driving them away from following UK Clubs. Not something a global brand will do?
